Nottingham Forest sack boss Dougie Freedman

Nottingham Forest have sacked Dougie Freedman as club manager, the club’s website has confirmed.

A run of five defeats in six games, which sees The Reds currently lying 14th in The Championship, has resulted in Freedman’s contract at Forest being terminated with immediate effect. The club also confirmed that first-team coach Paul Williams will take over the managerial role until the end of the season.

Freedman was appointed Forest manager on 1 February 2015, replacing Stuart Peace as boss at the midlands club.

After three months in charge, Freedman had guided Forest to a 14th place finish in the 2014/15 Championship season, with better results being expected by the club hierarchy in the 2015/16 campaign.

However, a mediocre run of 11 wins, 12 defeats and 13 losses sees Forest languishing in 14th yet again, 14 points adrift of the playoff positions.

With pressure already mounting on the former Crystal Palace and Bolton manager, a dismal 3-0 defeat at the City Ground against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday seemingly sealed Freedman’s fate.

On Sunday afternoon, a statement released on Forest’s club website announced the departure of Freedman as manager, after the club had terminated the 41-year-old’s contract.

The statement read:

“Nottingham Forest have terminated manager Dougie Freedman’s contract with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Dougie for all of his efforts during his time at The City Ground.

“First-team coach Paul Williams will take over the management of the side until the end of the season.”

Forest’s next fixture sees them face promotion-chasers Hull City at the KC Stadium on Tuesday in a midweek clash, before an eagerly anticipated East Midlands rivalry matchup with Derby County next week.
