Leeds United players comment on international call ups

Nothing can give a player more pride than being selected above his peers to represent his country, the highest accolade that any athlete can aspire to.

Maybe getting that initial call to represent your country gives an immense sense of having ‘made it’, but making a return to the national side must give an altogether different sensation.

That’s the situation surrounding Leeds United’s two Liams in Bridcutt and Cooper, both players having been called up to the Scotland squad for the home friendly against Denmark on March 29.

24-year-old Cooper finds himself in the international set up for the first time and, if he makes it onto the field, will be making his virgin senior bow for Scotland. 26-year-old Bridcutt will be making a return to the Scotland set up just over three years after his only other Scotland cap where he played the full 90 minutes in a March 2013  2-0 World Cup qualification loss to Serbia – where he received a 77th minute yellow card.

Bridcutt on his return to the Scotland line-up.

“Yeah, very happy. Obviously I’ve had previous call-ups before…everytime I’ve been close to getting back to full fitness there’s been an injury or something else happens. So, yeah, it’s been good that I’ve had a good run of games here and this showed that I’m back to full fitness and ready to go.”

Cooper on his first senior call-up to the Scotland squad.

“It’s always nice to obviously go and represent Scotland and it’s a massive honour for me and my family.”
