Struggling York City loan Rochdale striker

Relegation threatened League 2 club York City have sealed the signing of Rochdale striker Lewis Alessandra on an emergency loan deal according to York Press.

The 27 year old joins a York City side in desperate need of fire power with The Minstermen having failed to even register a shot on target in their last two matches.

Alessandra joined parent club Rochdale from Plymouth Argyle in June 2015 following a successful spell with The Pilgrims with the player having helped the club to the League 2 Play Off Semi Finals last season scoring 13 goals. The striker has struggled to break into the Rochdale first team since his move to Spotland making just 11 appearances for Dale this season scoring twice.

The Heywood born striker brings a wealth of Football League experience to Bootham Crescent having made 281 career appearances during spells with Oldham Athletic, Morecambe, Plymouth Argyle and Rochdale.

It is understood that Alessandra was a target for York City in the summer but the player opted for a move to Rochdale and signed a two year deal at the League 1 club. The player can play in a wide role and as an out and out striker.

Alessandra could be handed a York City debut in Saturday’s home league fixture against Barnet.
