Bristol City sign ex Celtic star

Bristol City have signed ex Celtic right back Adam Matthews on loan, his club Sunderland have confirmed.

The 24 year old defender has signed on loan until the end of the season.

The defender has only played twice for Sunderland since making the move from Celtic this summer and will hope that he can reignite his career in the Championship at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson was delighted to be bringing in Matthews, saying:

“Adam Matthews has lost his way a bit since going to Sunderland, but not long ago he was marking (Lionel) Messi for Celtic.

“People will wonder why we’re bringing in another right-back. It gives us manoeuvrability with Luke Ayling.”

Bristol City walked League One last season and despite a tough campaign at times, have every chance of surviving their first season back in the second tier.

The Robins are currently 20th in the Sky Bet Championship, five points above the relegation zone.
