Blackburn interested in this SPL star

Blackburn currently sit 17th in the Championship table and in the last transfer window lost star striker Jordan Rhodes to rivals Middlesbrough. However, according to the Lancashire Telegraph, Rovers are looking to add an SPL player to the ranks for next season.

The player in question is Celtic’s versatile 30-year-old Charlie Mulgrew with the Lancashire Telegraph quoting Blackburn’s head of recruitment Tommy Johnson that the Parkhead player is indeed someone the club are looking at.

Free-agent Mulgrew, who the Scotsman say Blackburn are looking to “snap up” on “a pre-contract”, is confirmed by Johnson as one of many players that Blackburn are looking at and taking an interest in.

Johnson said of the supposed Mulgrew interest, “I have been coming up watching games all season, not just Celtic,” Johnson, a former team-mate of Rovers boss Lambert’s at Celtic. I will sit down with the gaffer and we will discuss players for the summer. Probably from now until the end of the season we will be going around a lot of clubs watching games. I know he (Mulgrew) is out of contract like a lot of other players. I don’t know what his situation is. There are a lot of players out of contract. We just sit down and go through them. If they fit our remit, our wage structure, if their personality fits into the club and, ultimately, if the gaffer wants them then we will see what happens in the summer.”

Mulgrew has made 12 appearances for Celtic this season across the SPL, Champions League Qualification and the Europa League, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
