The Fans’ opinions on The Posh

Peterborough United currently sit 16th in League One, 10 points adrift of the play off places.

Barring some sort of miracle, the boys in blue will be looking at a fourth successive season in League One, following their relegation from the Championship in 2013.

But what exactly needs to happen at the football club in order for them to succeed in League One, and get back to the Championship?

I spoke to some Posh fans before their 1-1 draw at Wigan on Saturday, and they were very clear in what they wanted.

Many Posh fans believe that Darragh MacAnthony’s running is questionable. His decision to sell top scorer Conor Washington to QPR in January is what most fans blame for the recent run of form.

“How can he expect us to mount a challenge for promotion when he sells our best player” one fan questioned.

“We needed to keep Conor till the end of the season at least. Then we’d be seeing Championship football next season.”

Peterborough’s transfer policies are widely recognised across the country, as bringing young players in and developing them ready for higher leagues, but January’s acquisitions are being questioned by some supporters.

“We’ve got Tom Nicholls in and he’s done nothing,” said one disgruntled supporter.

“Darragh needed to get someone in that he knew could score goals.”

A minority of fans are putting the blame on boss Graham Westley, as they feel his tactics are way off the mark.

“I don’t know who Westley thinks we are. He sets us up as if we’re Barcelona, but we haven’t got the players for that,” one fan laughed.

When asked where the club goes from here, many were pessimistic about the future.

“League Two, Conference, Conference South” was the best response I got.

The general view amongst Posh fans that I spoke to is that if the club are to move forward and progress, either the policies integrated by the Chairman need to change, or he needs to sell.
