‘I was offered Owls job three times’ says Warnock

Rotherham United Manager Neil Warnock has admitted that he was offered the Manager’s job at Sheffield Wednesday three times during his managerial career but turned down the job on each occasion according to reports in the Sheffield Star.

The 67 year old says that he was approached by The Owls on three occasions with the latest discussions taking place after Dave Jones was sacked in December 2013 but despite being tempted by the offers an appointment was never made with the Wednesday board unsure about what kind of reception Warnock would receive from fans having spent over seven years on the other side of the city with Sheffield United.

Warnock was appointed Manager of Sheffield Wednesday’s local rivals Rotherham United last month and he brings his side to Hillsborough this afternoon trying to record a surprise victory over The Owls. Warnock is the third Millers boss this season following the sackings of Steve Evans and Neil Redfearn.

With one of the division’s smallest playing budgets, Rotherham United have struggled in the Championship this season and currently find themselves in 22nd position in the Championship table. The Millers are three points from safety but did secure a 2-1 home victory over Brentford last weekend and go into this afternoon’s South Yorkshire derby on a high.

Warnock’s side face a huge task at Hillsborough with opponents Wednesday unbeaten in 14 home league matches.
