Birmingham City to offer winger new deal

Birmingham City are set to offer a new improved deal to winger Jaques Maghoma according to reports in the Birmingham Mail.

The former Tottenham Hotspur trainee has impressed since joining The Blues from Sheffield Wednesday last summer and has forced his way into the Birmingham City First Team becoming a regular in the side.

Maghoma is under contract at St Andrews until summer 2017 however Blues Manager Gary Rowett believes that the winger’s excellent performances this season merit an improved deal for the player.

“He’s certainly one at the moment that we’d be looking to tie down onto a longer and more rewarding deal for him because his performances have deserved it,” Rowett told the Birmingham Mail.

“It’s something I’ve spoken to him about and I think it’s something that all the players that we‘ve always tried to do it if you look in the summer – players that have done well we’ll always have a sit down and tell them where we see them.”

“The process hasn’t necessarily started with the club yet, but it’s started in terms of my conversations with the players – which is always where it would start – and I would always be the first one to fight for the players to get them that reward.”

“We had good success with him at Burton, he very rightly got his Championship move and had an intermittent period with Sheffield Wednesday where he did some good things but then didn’t do as well as he’d possibly hoped for.”

“That’s the type of player I like, someone that maybe you can just reignite and get the spark going again.”

“When you look at Jacques, he’s strong, he’s quick, and he’s got great balance.”

“He can beat players, he can score goals, he can tackle, and he can defend.”

“He’s got most of the attributes you’d look for in a top Championship player/lower end Premier League player.”

“He’s one that has done very well but I’m greedy and I still think there’s more to come from Jacques.”

“I think he should be scoring 10 goals a season and setting more goals up because I know he’s got that type of ability.”

The Zaire born winger has made 34 appearances for Birmingham City to date scoring 5 goals.
