Exiles sign international midfielder from Bristol Rovers

League 2 strugglers Newport County have signed Bristol Rovers midfielder Jake Gosling on a one month loan deal according to the Bristol Post.

The 22 year old will stay at Rodney Parade until after The Exiles’ Easter clash with Accrington Stanley although the deal could be extended until the end of the current campaign should the player impress during his time in South Wales and is not needed by parent club Bristol Rovers.

The Oxford born winger is a product of the Exeter City academy and the player went on to make 12 appearances for The Grecians scoring once before rejecting a new deal at St James’ Park and joining Bristol Rovers in May 2014 following the club’s relegation to the Conference Premier.

The youngster played an important role for The Pirates last season making 23 league appearances scoring 3 goals for the club as they secured an immediate return back to the Football League with a Play Off victory over Grimsby Town at Wembley in May.

The player qualifies to play for Gibraltar and has 11 caps to his name and has scored twice for the nation including a famous goal in a 8-1 EURO 2016 Qualifying match defeat to Poland in Warsaw.

Gosling will be eligible for today’s fixture with Mansfield Town subject to international clearance being received.
