Chelsea are interested in signing Millwall defender Christian Mbulu, according to The Daily Star.
Mbulu is believed to have a lot of potential and this has interested the Premier League side, with several describing him as the ‘next Chris Smalling’ due to his non-league history.
Millwall signed Mbulu from Brentwood Town on his 19th birthday in August last year. Manager Neil Harris said at the time:
“He is a young guy who has been playing non-league football without any professional coaching or full-time training. We hope to realise the potential that we have seen on the training pitch and in a couple of pre-season games.”
Smalling also began his career with a non-league side, playing for Maidstone United before signing for Fulham and then Manchester United.
Mbulu has played most of his football this season for Millwall Under-21s, but also spent time out on loan at Ryman Premier League side Canvey Island.
