Lars Veldwijk

Dutch side hoping for permanent Forest player deal

Lars Veldwijk is perhaps a name that most Nottingham Forest fans have forgotten about. Whilst he is still a Nottingham Forest player for now, that may not be the case for much longer. He is enjoying a loan spell with Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle, who wish to sign him on a permanent basis according to talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old has impressed in the top flight of Dutch football, scoring 11 goals in 22 league games. Whilst no deal has been arranged, there is still the chance that Dougie Freedman may want him back at the City Ground.

Talks are set to commence between the two clubs to potentially strike out a deal and to essentially see where they both stand. Zwolle currently sit in midtable of the Eredivisie table, but if it wasn’t for the impact of Veldwijk, they may have been much lower.

Zwolle technical director Gerard Nijkamp insists that the ball is very much in the Nottingham Forest court regarding any permanent deal taking place,

“We depend on Nottingham.

“That is tight, because there have been some changes in the management. We’re waiting.”

Veldwijk moved to Nottinghamshire in the summer of 2014, signing for an initial £500,000 from Excelsior. He made eleven league appearances for the club, failing to score, all coming as a substitute. He also started two League Cup ties and began one FA Cup match as well. Earlier this season he scored a hat-trick against former club Excelsior in a 3-0 home win for Zwolle.

He hasn’t appeared for Forest since March of last year but his fine goalscoring exploits this season could tempt Freedman into bringing him back at the end of his season-long loan. The player may have his heart set on a permanent move back to Holland however.
