Powell set for Tigers debut in Arsenal FA Cup clash

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has confirmed recent loan signing Nick Powell will make his debut for the club in their FA Cup 5th Round clash at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The attacking midfielder was signed on loan until the end of the season from Manchester United on deadline day but is yet to make his first appearance for the club, but Bruce insists Powell will get his first opportunity this weekend.

Speaking to the Hull City website, Bruce said “Nick will definitely play. To be fair to Nick, he came here with a bit of an injury but he has now trained for 10 days.”

“When you look at a game like we had on Tuesday night against Brighton, Nick could be just the type of player we’re looking for and he will have a big part to play in the coming weeks. I’ve told him that. He’s versatile and can play as a striker or as a midfielder and I’m sure he can give us that bit of impetus.”

“He’ll definitely play on Saturday, as will all of the ones who haven’t been playing recently. Making changes is the only option I’ve got. After Arsenal, we play again on Tuesday and then Friday so I have to make sure we’re fresh enough to compete in those games as well.”

The former Crewe Alexandra player has also spent time on loan at Wigan and Leicester, but only made a handful of appearances for parent club Manchester United. The news comes just a day after ‘Manchester Evening News’ reported United assistant manager Ryan Giggs is keen on keeping the 21-year-old at the club when his loan deal ends.

Steve Bruce is expected to play a much changed side against the Gunners in the 5th Round clash, with Arsenal loanees Chuba Akpom and Isaac Hayden ineligible to play for the Tigers. The tie is live on BT Sports with a 12:45pm kick-off.
