Forest duo sign new deals

Chris Cohen and Oliver Burke have signed new contracts with Nottingham Forest. Long-serving Cohen, now back after injury, has signed a one-year extension whilst promising youngster Burke has penned a long-term four-and-a-half year deal.

Cohen has played his football at the City Ground since joining from Yeovil Town in 2007, but has suffered from injury problems for most of his time with the club. Burke has broken into the first-team fold this season and has impressed whenever he has took to the field.

Manager Dougie Freedman has sensibly elected to ease Cohen back into the first-team fold and the former club captain is now focusing all of his attentions to win back his place in the side. The fans’ favourite featured at left back on his comeback earlier this season, but Freedman elected to bring on Bojan Jokic on loan from Villarreal. Nevertheless, Cohen says he is delighted to be extending his stay with the club,

“I’m delighted. As predictable as it may sound, since I first started playing football I always wanted to stay at a club for ten years. I wanted to have a testimonial somewhere.
“Having been at West Ham as a kid, I thought I might do it there but obviously things din’t work out. As much as I loved my time at Yeovil, the club’s aspirations didn’t match my own. Then I signed for a wonderful, wonderful football club.
“It’s been a crazy journey. We’ve come so close to the Premier League a couple of times and I’ve had to come back from injuries. The amount of support I’ve had from the club, the chairman especially, has made me desperate to stay.”
Scotland youth international Burke took to social media to express his delight at extending his stay at the City Ground. He has immediately become an important player in Freedman’s squad, although the rotation policy is restricting him enjoying a lengthy run in the side. Still, he took to social media to express his happiness at signing a long-term deal at the club.
