Experienced Coventry City midfielder Jim O’Brien has joined League 1 rivals Scunthorpe United on a one month loan deal according to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
The 28 year old has been a regular for The Sky Blues this season making 29 appearances for Tony Mowbray’s side scoring twice but has had to settle for a place on the substitutes bench in recent weeks.
O’Brien worked under Interim Scunthorpe United Joint Manager Nick Daws when the pair were at Barnsley and Daws has shown no hesitation in providing the midfielder with an opportunity of starting football matches. The Alexandria born midfielder will offer plenty of versatility during his time at Glanford Park with the player able to operate both in the centre of the park and out wide.
The midfielder started his career at Celtic but failed to make the grade in Glasgow and had loan spells with Dunfermline Athletic and Dundee United before joining Motherwell on a permanent deal. O’Brien moved south of the border to join Barnsley in May 2010 and made 133 appearances scoring 8 goals for the South Yorkshire club during a successful spell at Oakwell.
A move to Coventry City followed in summer 2014 and the player has gone on to make 77 appearances for The Sky Blues scoring 8 goals.
O’Brien could make his debut for The Iron in this evening’s League 1 clash with Millwall at The Den.
