Wolves boss on defeat: “We need to improve our results”

Wolves boss Kenny Jackett was left frustrated after his side slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Preston on Saturday, which after the final whistle was met with a chorus of boos from Wanderers fans.

The loss extended Wolves’ streak without a victory to five games, as two goals from Paul Gallagher and Adam Reach condemned Jackett’s side to another loss. The result saw PNE leapfrog Wolves in the Championship table, The Wanderers dropping to 12th.

Speaking to Wolves’ club website, boss Jackett gave a summary of his feelings after his side’s poor performance.

“It was a frustrating game for us and a disappointing day,” Jackett said.

Wolves’ last league win came over a month ago, a 3-2 victory over Fulham on 12 January. Since then, three draws and two losses has seen The Wanderers slip away from playoff contention, as they now lie 11 points off sixth place Derby. Despite this, Jackett rebutted the opportunity to lay the blame at the feet of his players, saying there was certainly no lack of effort on their part.

“There was certainly no lack of effort from the players, they kept going right to the end.

“They all want to win, and are desperate to win.”

Another area Jackett highlighted that is in need of sharp improvement is his side’s defensive woes this season.

“We do want to attack and don’t want to talk about defending all of the time but conceding two goals makes it very difficult.

“That is something we have to work at and come through.”

A desolate run of home form has seen Wolves pick up only four wins in their 16 home games this season at Molineux, which culminated in The Wanderers faithful venting their anger towards their side after the final whistle blew to signal yet another home loss on Saturday. Jackett was quick to recognise that the reaction from his supporters was understandable, considering how poor results have been of late for the midlands club.

“We are all looking for good performances and for wins and they haven’t come here this year.

“It is our job to produce those results and we didn’t do that today.

“When we lose and we are poor, crowds are critical and we have to take that and we have to accept it.

“We need to improve our results because that is what will get the fans behind us.

Wolves’ next fixture sees them travel to John Smith’s Stadium next week to face Huddersfield, before a midweek trip to Griffin Park and Brentford.
