James Wallace

Shrewsbury loanee to miss Man Utd cup tie

Shrewsbury Town loanee James Wallace is set to miss their glamorous FA Cup tie against Manchester United on Monday 22nd February. Shropshire Star understands that the central midfielder won’t recover from his knee injury in time to be involved.

Salop boss Micky Mellon says that the 24-year-old, who re-joined the club for a second loan spell last month, is ‘gutted’ to be missing such an important fixture against one of the biggest teams in the world.

Wallace, who is on loan from League One rivals Sheffield United, has played five times for the club since joining on loan. He had a spell on loan at the Shropshire club back in 2011, which was one of his many loan moves away from Everton.

Mellon says that the injury Wallace picked up in the defeat to Southend United was an innocuous incident but accepts that it is part and parcel of football,

“He’s still sore so he’ll be written off for that one. It’s a blow for him because he was getting going in training.

“We all saw what a talent he is in the first 25 minutes against Southend and there’s no-one taken it harder than the lad.

“We’ll work as hard as we can to get him back as safely as we can to get him performing again.

“We’d be guessing in terms of when he’ll be back but we just know he won’t be available.”

Wallace has been plagued with injury problems for a number of seasons now. Since leaving Everton, he moved to Tranmere Rovers and then quickly onto Sheffield United in in 2014. Since moving to Bramall Lane, in addition to his loan spell at the Greenhous Meadow, he has only started 14 matches and was substituted in nine of those.
