Ipswich Town stopper set to extend deal

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski is close to agreeing a contract extension at Portman Road according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The 28 year old is out of contract in the summer but is expected to conclude talks on a new deal within the next few days.

Polish goalkeeper Bialkowski moved to Portman Road during the summer of 2014 from then League 1 club Notts County. The keeper won his place in Mick McCarthy’s starting line up last season and helped The Tractor Boys reach the Championship Play Off Semi Finals.

This season Bialkowski has mainly been second choice to fellow stopper Dean Gerken. He was harshly dropped after missing a match as a result of attending his father’s funeral. Bialkowski has recently returned to the side after Gerken suffered a shoulder injury but with the rival keeper now returning to full fitness Manager Mick McCarthy faces a selection headache for the club’s upcoming fixtures.

Bialkowski started his career playing in his native Poland playing for Olimpia Elblag and Gomik Zabrze before joining Southampton in January 2006. The Braniewo born keeper was mainly used as cover at St Mary’s and was loaned out to Ipswich Town and Barnsley before joining Notts County in 2012. Bialkowski impressed during his two year stint at Meadow Lane and secured a move to Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The keeper also has international honours with Poland Under 20s.
