Derby eye move for ex-Premier League boss

Ex-Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson’s representatives have been approached over the current vacant position at the helm of Derby County, according to Squawka.

In a surprising turn of event, Derby County sacked Paul Clement recently despite them sitting rather comfortably in fifth. However although the Rams are comfortably inside the play-offs, a recent dip in form during their challenge for one of the coveted automatic promotion spots means that the former Real Madrid assistant coach’s time at Derby was up.

Derby was Clement’s first managerial job after working alongside Carlo Ancelotti at both Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, and took that experience with him to Derby.

He was seen to be doing the job well, until he was relieved of his duties last week. According to Sky Sports, Nigel Pearson has been spotted as a potential candidate by Derby for his replacement.

Pearson’s time at Leicester City didn’t come without it’s controversial moments, with the infamous “ostrich” incident as well as one occasion where he allegedly choked James McArthur during a Premier League clash last season.

However, Pearson oversaw Leicester’s promotion push a couple of seasons ago and managed to steer them to safety in the last campaign before him and the club parted ways. He was then replaced by Claudio Ranieri in the summer who has seen them 5 points at the top of the Premier League table, incredibly.

Pearson has plenty of experience in the Championship with Southampton and could be a promising appointment for Derby, however many may be sceptical about whether he could do better than Clement before he was dismissed.
