‘One goal in three’ striker signs new Millwall deal

Steve Morison has signed a new contract with League One promotion contenders Millwall. The 32-year-old striker, who is in his first spell with the South-East London club, has extended his deal until the end of next season.

It has been an excellent season for Morison, in addition to the club in general, so far. He has found the back of the net on 10 occasions, extending his overall tally for Millwall to 58 goals in 174 matches. That is an average ratio of one goal every three games.

The former Leeds United, Norwich City and Stevenage forward was delighted to sign a longer deal at The Den and is now looking forward to the rest of the season,

“I’m over the moon that the contract has been signed.
“It has been in the pipeline for a few weeks now and I’m glad to get it over the line off the back of a good win at the weekend.
“I signed a one-year deal (last summer) with a view to agreeing a new contract and I’ve managed to do that while we’re in a nice position in the League.
“We’ve got plenty to play for between now and the end of the season and it’s been a good year so far, so hopefully we can top it off.”
Club legend and manager Neil Harris felt it was a no-brainer to offer Morison a new deal as he has quickly become a key player for the club once again,
“Steve has been an integral part of our improvement this year.
“He has been a continuous threat in games, has led the line extremely well and has struck up a good relationship with Lee Gregory and also Aiden O’Brien at times, as well as some early signs of a positive partnership with John Marquis as well.
“Steve is important to us in terms of our style of play, but just as key as that, if not more so, is that he has been a real leader on and off the pitch. He has matured into a fantastic character and really taken responsibility for team results on his shoulders to try and improve us.”
Morison will be hoping to get on the scoresheet again as he and his teammates travel to Spotland to take on Rochdale.
