Ferguson absent as Rovers aim to avoid derby defeat

Doncaster Rovers Manager Darren Ferguson will be missing from the dugout for this afternoon’s derby clash with Scunthorpe United at Glanford Park after being hit with a touchline ban according to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

The Rovers boss was issued with the ban yesterday after being charged with misconduct for “using abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official” after losing his temper in last week’s home defeat to Port Vale.

The South Yorkshire club are in exceptional form away from home heading into the Glanford Park derby clash winning 4 and drawing 3 of their last 7 League 1 away matches although Rovers have not tasted victory in their last 5 league outings.

The two clubs met on Boxing Day when Paddy Madden netted the only goal of the match at The Keepmoat Stadium to give Scunthorpe United a gritty victory over their neighbours. That victory now gives The Iron the chance to secure their first derby double over Doncaster Rovers in almost 25 years.

Scunthorpe United are currently under the interim management of Andy Dawson and Nick Daws and the pair have analysed the opposition’s performance during Rovers’ midweek 2-1 defeat to Walsall. The caretaker management duo have been in charge of the Iron’s First Team affairs since former Manager Mark Robins was sacked a fortnight ago.

It is understood that Dawson and Daws are likely to learn their fate next week and a positive result this afternoon will enhance their chances of landing the job on a permanent basis.
