QPR miss out on signing Czech Republic striker

Queens Park Rangers Director of Football Les Ferdinand has confirmed that the club missed out on the signing of Czech Republic striker Jiri Skalak during the transfer window according to BBC Sport.

It has been reported that The Hoops made a bid for the 23 year old Czech Republic international but the player opted to join The R’s Championship rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

Skalak joined The Seagulls on a three year deal from Czech Republic First Division club FK Mlada Boleslav for an undisclosed fee on transfer deadline day. The youngster can operate as an out and out striker but can also play as a winger and has scored 6 goals in 16 appearances for FK Mlada Boleslav this season prior to his move to The Amex Stadium.

The striker started his career as a youngster with Czech giants Sparta Prague and spent time on loan at MFK Ruzomberok, FC Slovacko and FC Zbrojovka Brno before moving to Mladá Boleslav permanently in 2015. Skalak is set to make his debut for Brighton & Hove Albion in tonight’s home fixture with Brentford.

Missing out on the signing of Skalak could prove to be a blow for mid table QPR with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side currently 12 points off a Championship Play Off place.
