Brighton open to new striker loan signing next week

Whilst it may not seem like an emergency, Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has told The Argus that he may sign a new striker on loan next week. The emergency loan window opens on Tuesday and the former Newcastle boss is open to bolstering his forward line.

Man Utd loanee James Wilson, experienced Bobby Zamora and the energetic Tomer Hemed are already on the books with the club. Plus, Sam Baldock is closing in on a return from injury. Whilst they are good on options, Hughton still feels they could add another body.

Jiri Skalak also joined the club on deadline day, however he is seen as more of a wide man, rather than an out-and-out centre forward in the mould of those mentioned above. The ex-Birmingham City manager acknowledges that signing another forward is very much an option and is keen on making it happen,

“It’s an option for us. We won’t shut our thinking at all once that opens (loan window).

“In the striking areas we have got Sam Baldock back training. James Wilson is improving with each week, getting used to the level, and with Bobby (Zamora) and Tomer (Hemed) as well we certainly have numbers.

“If there are any opportunities that we think can improve us then it is something we will look at but at the moment I’m delighted with the squad we’ve got.”

Last year in this window, the Seagulls tried to sign Glenn Murray on loan from Crystal Palace, however a move to bring back their former striker fell through. It remains to be seen if Hughton will once again investigate that option, or look elsewhere.
