Gomez had made only six appearances for Sunderland this season without scoring a goal, so the club were willing to let the midfielder leave the club on loan.
Gomez arrived in England in 2008, signing on loan for Swansea City. The midfielder’s first season was arguably his best season in English football, as he scored 12 goals in the Championship.
Gomez’s first permanent club in England was Wigan Athletic before his contract expired at the end of the 2013-14 season. The midfielder then signed for Sunderland, where he scored four goals in 27 league starts.
Blackburn manager Paul Lambert had been searching for a creative midfielder all month and now looks to have got his man.
