Simon Church

MK Dons striker moves North of the Border

Ladbrokes Premiership title challengers Aberdeen has completed the loan signing of striker Simon Church. He joins from Championship strugglers MK Dons. The Welsh international moves to the Dons on a deal that shall run until the end of the season.

Church moved to stadiummk in June last year following his release from his contract at Charlton Athletic. He initially enjoyed a good run in the team under Karl Robinson, but injury meant he lost his place and he failed to win it back.

Former Crewe Alexandra striker Nicky Maynard appears to have the solitary lone striking shirt at this moment in time and Church needs game-time. He is looking to ensure his place in Chris Coleman’s squad for the European Championships in France that are coming up this summer.

In addition to his time at Charlton, Church is perhaps best known for his spell with Reading, which is where he began his professional career. He went on to play over 100 times for the Royals, but did also have five different loan moves away from the Madejski Stadium as well. He would move to The Valley in 2013.

In 27 appearances for Robinson’s men this season, he has found the back of the net on three occasions. The team has generally struggled to score goals anyway this season. However he’ll be certainly hoping to significantly improve that tally as Aberdeen look to close the gap to leaders Celtic at the top of the Ladbrokes Premiership.
