Chesterfield confirm signing of Bradford midfielder

Chesterfield have completed the signing of English midfielder Gary Liddle from fellow League One club Bradford.

The Spireites have agreed a deal to bring 29-year-old Liddle, who has made 26 appearances for Bradford this season, to The Proact Stadium.

Having signed with The Bantams in the summer of 2014, Liddle has remained an ever-present in the Bradford side, making 76 appearances  and scoring four goals.

Having lost midfielder and club captain Sam Morsy to promotion-chasers Wigan, Chesterfield will be pleased to have added such an experienced veteran to their midfield ranks.

Speaking of his move to The Spireites with Chesterfield’s club website, Liddle commented:

“I’m delighted to get it all sorted. I’m predominantly a midfielder but I can play at centre-back as well.”

Liddle also spoke about the chance of playing under Chesterfield manager Danny Wilson again, having played for Wilson while at Hartlepool.

“The chance to work with the manager again really appealed to me and that was a major factor in my decision to sign because Danny is one of the best managers I’ve worked for.”

The manager in question Wilson talked about why he made the decision to sign Liddle for a second time, having acquired the English midfielder once before almost 10 years ago.

“I’ve know Gary for the best part of ten years. I took him from Middlesbrough to Hartlepool and he did well for us.” Wilson said.

“He’s a versatile, no-nonsense player who is a ‘seven out of ten’ every week and I’m sure the fans will take to him.”

With Chesterfield lingering dangerously above the League One drop-zone in 18th place, both Wilson and Liddle will be hoping to work together with the rest of the squad to guide The Spireites up the table to safety.
