Bellusci

Leeds United braced for bids from Serie A clubs for centre-back

Leeds United are preparing themselves for bids from Verona and Empoli with both Serie A clubs keen on bringing in Whites defender Giuseppe Bellusci.

TuttoMercatoWeb have previously reported that Verona were interested in the player, and it’s now been revealed that Emopli (who’ve recently sold central defender Federico Barba to Stuttgart) are looking at the 26 year-old.

Bellusci has been with Leeds United since 2014 and has played close to 50 games for the club, making 17 appearances for the Whites this season.

Nicknamed ‘The Warrior’ by fans of Catania, the Italian started his career with Serie B side Ascoli and spent three years with the second tier club before being snapped up by the aforementioned Catania.

At the time The Elephants were playing in Serie A and the centre-back went on to make 99 appearances for the club before moving to England.

Formerly an Italian U21 international, Bellusci was snapped up by Leeds in the summer of 2014 in a deal worth £1.6 million.

Earlier on in this transfer window Leeds boss Steve Evans revealed he had rejected two offers for Bellusci from Italian clubs.
