Burnley agree fee with Brentford for Tarkowski

Sky Sports understands that Burnley have agreed a fee with Brentford ahead of the signing of centre back James Tarkowski. The 23-year-old, former Oldham Athletic defender is now travelling to Lancashire to undergo a medical with Sean Dyche’s men.

The Clarets had a £2.5million bid rejected earlier in January for Tarkowski, who has been left out of every Brentford matchday squad since January 12. It is believed that the agreed fee is in the region of £6million.

Dyche tried to sign Tarkowski much earlier, last summer in fact, around the time when Andre Gray joined the club. The highly-rated defender has featured 72 times during his time at Griffin Park and his current deal was set to expire at the end of next season.

He recently released a statement via the clubs official website saying that due to his mother’s health, he wanted to return closer to his family in the North West. He now looks set to be granted that wish.

There is the slight chance he could play for Burnley tomorrow in their away clash at Sheffield Wednesday, although Saturday’s clash at home to Hull City may be more realistic, considering he hasn’t played for a few weeks.
