Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday locked in battle over Premier League winger

Championship clubs Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are still hopeful of landing a deal for Everton’s outcast winger Aiden McGeady.

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has spoken to Sky Sports and revealed that two clubs have agreed terms with the Republic of Ireland international, with one of them being Sheffield Wednesday and the other club unnamed.

Martinez confirmed it was a ‘matter of time’ before McGeady made his decision on which club to join, with Leeds United still keen to bring in the experienced winger on loan.

Everton’s boss spoke about the reason why he was allowing the 29 year-old to leave the club on a temporary basis;

“Aiden needs to play and it’s a really good opportunity for him to do that in a very demanding fixture list for a team that can get a really good tempo into Aiden for Euro 2016.

“That will make sure he comes back having had a good period of football and of having an impact for whichever team he joins.”

Since arriving at Goodison Park back in 2014, McGeady has only gone on to make 32 appearances for the Toffees and is yet to make a first team appearance for the club this season.

McGeady has played the majority of his career in Scotland with giants Celtic, playing 185 games and staying with the club for nine years.

After leaving to join Spartak Moscow, four years in Russia preceded his move to Merseyside but the winger has continually struggled to nail down a starting place.
