Leeds United suffer transfer blow as Championship rivals agree transfer

Leeds United have today been dealt a blow in their pursuit for Premier League winger Aiden McGeady as, according to Sky Sports, Sheffield Wednesday have agreed a deal to take the Irish international on loan until the end of the season.

The 29 year-old has made it clear he wants to leave Goodison Park in search of more regular first team action, with McGeady having failed to make a single league appearance for the Toffees this season.

Leeds boss Steve Evans had been an admirer of the Glasgow-born forward and held talks with the player just last week, however further talks failed to come to fruition.

Capped 79 times at International level, McGeady needs to get minutes under his belt this season if he is to be included in Martin O’Neil’s Euro 2016 squad.

Since joining Everton in 2014, McGeady has failed to nail down a starting role and has made just 32 league appearances over his two seasons at Goodison Park.

Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping they can complete the deal, with the Owls currently sitting just one point below the play-offs and nine points behind the automatic play-off places.
