Saturday Preview – FA Cup potential giant killings

This afternoon sees a number of FA Cup Fourth Round ties taking place involving several Football League clubs. The72 look at three particular ties which may have a chance of producing an unexpected FA Cup shock.

The Third Round saw a number of exciting ties with League 2 pair Oxford United and Portsmouth grabbing the headlines after beating higher division opposition in the form of Swansea City and Ipswich Town respectively. Both clubs were handed home ties after their Third Round achievements and there is no doubt that both clubs could shock again.

Oxford United host Blackburn Rovers at The Kassam Stadium and with United in excellent form in League 2 they could prove tough opposition for Paul Lambert’s Rovers side. The U’s midfielder Kemar Roofe has been instrumental in the clubs good form this season and he is the man who the visitors may have to stop to halt the threat of a confident United side.

League 2 club Portsmouth host AFC Bournemouth at Fratton Park and the tie promises to be an absolute cracker. Pompey have struggled to break into League 2’s automatic promotion places this season but can compete with anyone on their day and have beaten Championship opposition twice at Fratton Park this season in the form of Derby County and Ipswich Town. AFC Bournemouth’s priorities will undoubtably sit with Premier League survival and this may offer Portsmouth some hope of a big result this afternoon.

League 1 club Bury face Championship promotion hunters Hull City at Gigg Lane and The Shakers will fancy their chances of causing an upset. Bury have adapted to life in League 1 very well after their promotion last season and Manager David Flitcroft has built an impressive side at the Lancashire club. The Shakers have gone off the boil lately but with quality players like Leon Clarke and Tom Pope in their ranks there is always a chance of goals. Hull City Manager Steve Bruce may rotate his squad with promotion to the Premier League his top priority.

All three matches kick of at 3pm this afternoon.
