Blackburn sign former Celtic striker

Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of Charlton Athletic striker Tony Watt, the club have confirmed.

Blackburn are now awaiting official confirmation from the football authorities about whether Watt will be allowed to take part in the club’s FA tie away to Oxford tomorrow afternoon.

Watt, 22, is already quite well traveled, having played for clubs in Scotland, Belgium and England.  The striker started his career with Airdrie United, scoring three goals in 15 games.

This was enough to convince Celtic to sign Watt in January 2011, and the striker scored two goals in five minutes on his debut for the club against Motherwell.

Perhaps the moment Watt is most known for is his goal against Barcelona in a 2-1 win for Celtic in the Champions League.  The forward was only 18 when he scored in November 2012.

Watt then spent some time in Belgium with Lierse and Standard Liège before returning to the United Kingdom in January 2015 with Charlton Athletic.

The forward score three goals in the club’s opening three games this season before joining Cardiff City on loan.  Watt’s appearance against Blackburn for Charlton last weekend was the second time he has faced Rovers this season, after appearing in Cardiff’s 1-0 win over the North West side.

Watt joins Blackburn on loan until the end of the season with a fee set for the striker to join permanently in the summer transfer window.
