Wolves complete signing of Cardiff striker

Wolves have secured the services of Cardiff City forward Joe Mason for an undisclosed fee.

The Republic of Ireland U21 striker has joined Kenny Jackett’s side on a three-and-a-half-year deal after spending five years with the Bluebirds.

Mason started his career at Plymouth Argyle, scoring 10 goals in 53 appearances, before joining Cardiff City in 2011 for £250,000.

During his time with the Welsh side he enjoyed three loan spells with Bolton Wanderers before staking his place in the first-team under Russell Slade during the latter part of the 2014-2015 campaign.

However with Slade’s side currently under a transfer embargo, Cardiff decided to sell their centre-forward – a decision which was criticised by ex-captain Mark Hudson.

Wolves currently have a limited number of strikers available to them after the £10m sale of Benik Afobe to Bournemouth so Jackett will be hoping that Mason can immediately step into the former Arsenal man’s shoes.

Mason could be given his first Wolves appearance against former club Bolton on Tuesday night at Molineux.
