Birmingham confirm Fabbrini re-signing

As expected, Birmingham City have completed the permanent signing of Diego Fabbrini from Watford. He re-joins the club on a three-and-a-half year deal for £1.5million, returning after a loan spell with the club last season. He had been on loan at Championship title challengers Middlesbrough, who have just signed Gaston Ramirez from Southampton.

The Italian can play in a number of positions in attack, on either wing or even in a number ten position. He takes up the number seven shirt, left vacant by Demarai Gray after he joined Leicester City earlier this month.

The 25-year-old spent the early part of his career in Italy, playing for Empoli and then gaining his only Italian international senior cap whilst with Udinese. A loan spell with Palermo followed, before moving to these shores for the first time with Watford.

Several loan moves away would follow, including a stint at Millwall, before Birmingham came calling for the first time. He enjoyed a productive spell at the Riverside Stadium earlier this season, before gradually losing his place in the side and also suffering with some injury problems. He is now back at St Andrews, only this time on a permanent deal. He should make his debut against Bristol City this weekend.
