Middlesbrough to rival Watford for Swansea winger

Middlesbrough are interested in taking Swansea winger Jefferson Montero on loan for the rest of the season, according to a report by The Sun.

Montero signed for Swansea for around £3.5 million in July 2014 and made 30 Premier League appearances in his debut season for the Welsh club.

However Montero has started five of the last seven Swansea games on the bench and it isn’t yet clear whether he is in the plans of new head coach Francesco Guidolin.  Guidolin enjoyed a 2-1 victory over Everton in his first game in charge at the weekend.

Middlesbrough want to sign Montero firstly on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a permanent move should the loan deal work out.

This move is far from set in stone however, with Premier League side Watford also interested in the winger.  It is understood that the club have bid £10 million for the Ecuadorian and Swansea would probably prefer a permanent deal should they be willing to let Montero leave.

Therefore it is believed that Swansea will not let Montero join Middlesbrough at the moment.
