Joe Pigott

4 League Two clubs chase Charlton striker on loan

South London Today is reporting that Charlton Athletic striker Joe Pigott is attracting interest from four League Two clubs. He is out of contract this summer and is free to leave the Championship strugglers on loan. Earlier this season he had a spell out on loan with Southend United, who he helped win promotion into League One with last season as well.

However he recently returned to The Valley and is soon set to be on the move once again. Bristol Rovers, Luton Town, Stevenage and Oxford United are all hoping to sign the 22-year-old before the transfer window closes for the season on Monday.

Luton are managed by Nathan Jones, who has previously been the Under-21 manager with the Addicks so will no doubt have been aware of Pigott’s emergency around that time. Since making his professional debut with Charlton in 2013, he has spent most of his time out on loan. Spells with Bromley, Gillingham and Newport County came before a productive spell with Phil Brown’s Southend.

Without a doubt the highlight of Pigott’s career came in last season’s League Two play-off final, where it was his goal in added time of extra time which took Southend into a penalty shoot-out, where they defeated Wycombe Wanderers at Wembley Stadium. He found it harder in League One this season, but is clearly proven at League Two level. Competition to sign him is rife but any of the three clubs would certainly improve for his signing, even if temporarily.
