Exeter reject ‘some offers’ for top scorer Nichols

Long-serving Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale has confirmed to the BBC that they have rejected offers for top scorer Tom Nichols. It is being reported that one of those clubs is League One side Swindon Town. The striker is out of contract this summer and has so far refused to sign an extension.

The 22-year-old has so far notched 12 goals for the Grecians so far this season, including the opener in the recent FA Cup Third Round clash against Liverpool at St James’ Park. Being under 24, the club would receive compensation for him should he leave, but Tisdale is still hoping he’ll stay.

43-year-old Tisdale, who will celebrate ten years in charge of the League Two club in June 2006 confirmed that ‘some offers’ have been tabled for the talented forward, but none of them met the required valuation,

“We’ve had some offers in but nothing which is close to how we would value him.

“We’ve had interest that’s then turned into strong conversations about money, but until there’s a strong offer he’ll remain with Exeter.

“If he doesn’t move I’m more than happy for him to stay here,” added Tisdale. “Why wouldn’t I be?

“My experience of a transfer window is often things happen late, and you just need an open mind and be ready to react.

“Every player’s for sale, that is life at Exeter City – I have an open mind to any offer for any player from any club.”

Nichols made his Exeter debut back in May 2011, appearing when the club were in League One versus current Championship play-off contenders Sheffield Wednesday. His first goal came early into the following season in a 2-1 victory over Chesterfield. In recent years he has began to attract interest from higher league clubs and it remains to be seen if Exeter City can keep those suitors at bay for much longer.
