Reading take interest in Norwich defender

Championship side Reading have expressed an interest in signing Norwich City defender Steven Whittaker, according to a report by The Sun.

Whittaker is currently out of favour at Carrow Road and could be loaned out to a Championship club or sold permanently.

The defender began the season as Norwich boss Alex Neil’s first choice right-back but has fallen down the pecking order at the club and hasn’t made a first-team appearance since October.  This has led to speculation about his future.

With the recent arrival of right-back Ivo Pinto at Norwich, Whittaker has been linked with several Championship sides.  It is understood that a host of Championship teams have contacted Norwich about the defender.

Reading are believed to be one of the interested clubs and they hope to be able to sign Whittaker, 31, who would add experience to their defence.

Not only has Whittaker made over 400 club appearances, he also has 30 international caps for Scotland.
