Travel restrictions relaxed for Cardiff City’s trip to Ashton Gate

Cardiff City supporters have been advised that they are able to make their own travel arrangements for their Championship fixture at Bristol City on Saturday 5th March according to The Bristol Post.

The South West clash, referred to by fans as the ‘Severnside Derby’ is set to kick off at Noon and visiting fans can attend the clash without the need to travel on organised supporters coaches.

In October, Bristol City fans were made to travel to The Cardiff City Stadium on Official Supporters Club coaches for the reverse fixture but after liaising with police The Robins have confirmed that the same extreme measures will not be in place for travelling Bluebirds fans.

Bristol City shared a goalless draw with Cardiff City in South Wales in October and the match passed without any significant disorder. The match was a dour affair witnessed in front of a crowd of just 15,287 and despite the pre match focus on preventing trouble the match was played in front of a rather flat atmosphere at The Cardiff City Stadium.

In 2013, trouble erupted in Cardiff city centre when travelling Bristol City hooligans caused damage to a pub on St Mary Street and police have applied a cautious approach to meetings between the two clubs since the incident.
