Italians interested in Leeds United striker

Mirco Antenucci spent the majority of this week back in his native Italy for the birth of his second child, in doing so relegating himself to the bench and forcing head coach Steve Evans to not play two up front against Bristol City.

In an aside to Antenucci’s travels to Italy is news that the Leeds forward is seemingly on the radar of third-placed Serie B side Pescara who on 40 points are nine points behind Cagliari and with a much worse goal difference, having only scored 31 goals over the course of the season’s 22 games so far.

According to Italian website tuttomercatoweb, Pescara are interested in securing Antenucci’s services in case their striker Andrea Cocco leaves the club; Cocco is reportedly in talks with fellow Italian Serie B side U.S. Salernitana 1919.

Antenucci, a firm crowd favourite at Elland Road and last year’s leading scorer with 10 goals, is out of contract in the summer and it is thought that it is highly likely that he will stay on at Leeds for a third season, if beyond the current transfer window. The departure of the crowd-pleasing forward, should this happen, would be despite Steve Evans saying earlier this month that he hoped that the Italian forward would see out this year at Elland Road.

Sky Italia say that with Salernitana interested in taking Andrea Cocco from Perscara, this circumstance would see Pescara “replace him with Antenucci¹,” in a move that may come sooner rather than later.
