Italians cancel pursuit of this Leeds player but eye another

Online publication Corriere Adriatico are reporting that Ascoli have ended their interest in Leeds United frontman Mirco Antenucci and are instead turning their attentions elsewhere as they look for strikng options.

Dismissing Antenucci as likely costing too much for the club to bear, Corriere Adriatico state that, “Ascoli has not lost hope to recruit Tommaso Bianchi,” who they see as being an easier target to sign and also one that might cost a little less.

Bianchi was one of the initial wave of Italian signings that arrived when Massimo Cellino first took over the club and was an almost ever-present in the starting line-up before a knee injury saw him lose a lot of the second half of the 2014/15 Championship season. During his time in the side, Bianchi proved to be a high-volume passer of the ball and also a dependable tackler in a more defensive midfield role than what he was used to playing.

Bianchi is now recovererd from the injury that saw him lose a lot of the aforementioned season and a further injury setback suffered during pre-season and has been gaining match practice in the Leeds United Under-21 team as he battles his way back to full match sharpness. Corriere Adriatico also say that Italian side Ascoli’s sporting director Francesco Marroccu, “will try to launch the final attack, trusting in the friendship between the DS [Marroccu] and Massimo Cellino, the owner of the English team.”

The Yorkshire Post have already said that Tommaso Bianchi has been made available for transfer by Leeds United in their ‘Gossip Column’ feature of January 18, 2016 and stating that “Serie B side Vincenza are keen on bringing him in this month,” with representatives of the two sides set to “hold talks over the next few days.” Now it seems that Ascoli are also throwing their hat into the ring in an attempt to capture Leeds United’s Tommaso Bianchi.
