Bristol City target Colchester United midfielder

Championship strugglers Bristol City are interested in making a move for Colchester United midfielder Alex Gilbey according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

The 21 year old central midfielder is enjoying a run in the First Team at The Weston Homes Community Stadium following the appointment of new Manager Kevin Keen and his performances are said to have impressed The Robins enough to consider a move for the youngster.

Gilbey is a product of Colchester United’s youth academy and has made 107 appearances for The U’s scoring 5 goals for the club. Bristol City are said to be interested in the midfielder after having a £1 million bid for Gillingham midfielder Bradley Dack rejected by the Kent club.

As well as his appearances for Colchester United, Gilbey also had a short spell on loan at Newport County in 2013 and played in small part in the club’s promotion back to The Football League that year.

Bristol City are currently without a Manager after Steve Cotterill’s sacking and Interim Manager John Pemberton is currently in charge of First Team matters at Ashton Gate. Pemberton is overseeing potential transfers at the club and is the person expected to negotiate any potential deal for the Colchester United midfielder.

The Robins are currently in the relegation zone in the Championship table.
