Sam McQueen joins Southend on loan

Southampton’s’ Sam McQueen moves to Roots Hall until the end of the season.

The young winger has been a prominent player in the Saints development side for the last few seasons and will be looking to make his mark on the football league.

The loan deal will be the youngsters first move of his career after rising through the renowned Southampton academy ranks.

On joining the Blues, McQueen has stated, “It feels very good to join Southend.”

“I’m excited for what’s to come, and I’m just looking forward to getting started, getting on the pitch and playing some football.”

“I want to be scoring goals, getting assists and providing that killer ball in the final-third, I want to try and get points for the team, push up and get promotion.”

Southend currently sit in 9th position in League One and are looking to push for a playoff position in the hopes of joining the Championship next season.

McQueen will be looking to help The Blues add to their score tally with his wicked left foot.

Blues gaffer Phil Brown has said, “Sam’s a quality, talented player at the front end of the pitch.”

He can also play down the middle, who’s got pace, and he’s come from an academy, at Southampton, that has produced a number of quality players over the years.”

Southend face Coventry City on Saturday, a match the club hope to win after a run of four games without a win.
