With Leeds having only signed two players on loan during the January transfer window, in Liam Bridcutt and Mustapha Carayol, fans of the Whites are left wondering just where the host of signings are likely to come from. The Yorkshire Post’s Lee Sobot says that the club are looking to “land two signings before [the] weekend,” with this being expressed by Leeds’ assistant manager Paul Raynor.
One player who could very well be on the radar at Elland Road could be Peterborough’s attacking midfielder-cum-striker Marcus Maddison according to BBC Radio Leeds commentator Adam Pope. Popey says that Peterborough owner Daragh MacAnthony, “admits on Twitter that #lufc have enquired about striker Marcus Maddison.”
But who is Marcus Maddison?
Durham-born 22-year-old Maddison was signed by Peterborough for a reported £220,000 transfer fee from non-league Gateshead in August 2014 after the ex-Newcastle United youngster had been picked up as a free agent by Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone. Peterborough have a knack of signing players such as Maddison and selling them on for a bigger profit, Posh being in profit to the tune of £21.6m over just eight players sold.
So far this season, youngster Maddison has scored five goals and provided six assists for Peterborough in 20 appearances that have seen the quick-witted left-footer play across the front line as well as a predominant eight appearances at left midfield and even two at left back – where he marked up one of his five goals. This goal-scoring display followed on from last season when he scored a total of eight League One goals and provided four assists.
Whether this ‘enquiry’ from Leeds is one of the two ‘promised’ signings by the weekend remains to be seen, but with the words coming straight from Daragh MacAnthony’s mouth, there is at least legs in this rumour.
