Burnley v Derby County: The72 Betting Preview

Without a doubt the game of the weekend in the Sky Bet Championship this weekend comes on Monday night at Turf Moor. No matter what results happen on Saturday, both Burnley and Derby County will enter this game in the play-off places. If your struggling for betting selections on this huge promotion six-pointer, then fear not, as we’ll have all bases covered.

Form

It is fair to say that Burnley head into this game in better form than Derby County, certainly over the last couple of matches. Burnley have won their last three games in all competitions, scoring ten goals in the process, including a victory away to top of the table Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. For anyone that didn’t see the Brentford game last Friday, then check out the highlights by CLICKING HERE, as the first 45 minutes was most impressive.

Whilst Burnley may have beaten Middlesbrough recently, albeit a much-changed Middlesbrough, Derby only recently lost to them and ever since they don’t seem to have been the same side. It is four league games without a victory for the Rams, conceding eight goals during that period, which is bad considering their excellent defensive record. They have only scored three goals in that time as well, and considering they possess the likes of Chris Martin, Nick Blackman and Thomas Ince to name but three, they should be doing much better. Paul Clement recently said their performance against Reading was ‘awful’. He then said he was ‘more disappointed’ with the Birmingham performance.

Team News

Burnley have no new injury or suspension issues heading into this game. So the likelihood is that they will name an unchanged side for the visit of Derby.

Derby could be tempted to freshen up their side after some poor performances. Scott Carson returned to the bench against Birmingham City and may return from the start in place of Lee Grant in goal. Chris Martin also didn’t start the last game, but their nine-goal striker can be expected back in the starting eleven.

Predictions:

It is hard to look beyond a Burnley win (33/20) at this moment in time. Derby will improve eventually, but on recent form there is only one winner.

Although Derby are conceding goals, that is uncharacteristic for them. Clement will be working on improving their defensive shape for this crunch match. Burnley can sometimes struggle to score more than two against the better sides in the league at home, scoring once or not at all at home to Ipswich and Brighton. A 1-0 Burnley full time score looks a play (11/2).

Scott Arfield to score first is certainly a very attractive price (11/1), especially as he scored a belter at Brentford and has scored three in their last three home matches.

There is a lot to suggest that both teams to score would come in considering the attacking quality on show, but this is a huge game so it could be quite tight. Both teams to score (no) is priced at (10/13).
