Cook, No transfer request for Leeds United starlet

No transfer request for Leeds United starlet

In news that will bring a sigh of relief to White’s fans, it appears that highly-rated Leeds starlet Lewis Cook is staying at the Elland Road club, according to The Express.

Despite rumoured interest from Bournemouth of a cash-plus-player deal for the 18-year-old, Lewis Cook will not hand in a transfer request at Leeds United this January, the Daily Star quoting a source ‘close to the player’.

After news emerged that fellow Leeds United Academy graduate Sam Byram was to be sold to West Ham, after turning down a move to Everton who agreed £3.7m fee with the Elland Road outfit, some Leeds fans were fearing a ‘domino effect’ of players leaving. However, in news that may appease the troubled minds of these Leeds fans, this may not be so.  The Daily Star’s ‘source close to the player’ said: “He hasn’t put in a transfer request. 100 per cent not.

“He loves the club and wants to stay. He’s aware of the interest in him, but the only way he will leave anytime soon is if Massimo Cellino accepts a bid and decides to sell him.”

Cook made his Leeds debut early during last season’s Championship campaign and has made 61 appearances for Leeds, in doing so establishing himself as one of the most sought after stars of the Championship.

He has made six appearances for the England U19 side, since winning the European Championships as an England Under-17 and It is this potential that had given rise to rumours of higher division teams being interested in acquiring his services.

However, with news that he isn’t looking to move away from the fold anytime soon, this news may prove a ray of sunshine as the transfer window develops.
