Reading have been linked with Latvian striker Deniss Rakels, according to Get Reading.

The 23 year old plays in Poland for Cracovia Krakow and has 15 goals in 25 games this season.

He has scored 14 in his last 15.

Reports in Poland suggest that The Royals have offered around £500,000 for the striker, who has also attracted interest from Belgium and Germany.

However, it is believed that Reading are leading the race for his signature and reports suggest that a deal could be tied up in the next few days.

The news comes on the day that Peterborough United striker Conor Washington, a player linked with Reading last week, has signed for QPR.

Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony confirmed on Twitter that another club had agreed a fee for Washington last week, only to pull out as they wanted to sign a Polish striker.

MacAnthony also confirmed that Reading boss Brian McDermott ‘loved’ Washington, when asked by a fan if Reading were interested in the 23 year old.

Reading have struggled this season after a strong start and lost striker Nick Blackman to Derby at the start of the transfer window.

They currently lie 14th in the Sky Bet Championship.
