Former Hibs favourite on trial at York City

League Two bottom club York City have offered a trial to former Hibernian star Derek Riordan, according to the York Press.

The 33 year old striker will feature for the club’s reserve side in their North Riding Senior Cup tie at Teesside non league outfit Guisborough Town on Tuesday evening.

Riordan joined The Hibees as a 16 year old and went on to become a legend of the club after making 269 appearances for Hibernian in two spells at Easter Road. In 2010 he became the first Hibs player in three decades to score over 100 goals for the club.

The Edinburgh born striker played for Glasgow giants Celtic in between his two spells on Leith but scored just 8 goals in 32 appearances for The Hoops.

Since leaving Hibernian in 2011, Riordan has become something of a journeyman playing in China before returning to Scotland for a short spell with St Johnstone. Moves to Bristol Rovers, Alloa Athletic and East Fife followed before the striker became a free agent last summer.

Riordan has been capped by his country on three occasions. He also won two Scottish Premier League titles and a Scottish Cup while at Celtic.

York City Manager Jackie McNamara is looking to improve his attacking options with the club having failed to score in their last two matches.
