Wolves linked with move for Barnet star

Wolverhampton Wanderers could try to make a move for Barnet striker John Akinde, according to getwestlondon.

The big striker played a huge part in Barnet’s Conference Premier title winning season last season scoring 32 goals as The Bees romped to promotion.

Wolves Manager Kenny Jackett is keen to boost his attacking options with the club now without of the services of star striker Benik Afobe after the player was sold to Premier League outfit AFC Bournemouth in a deal which could exceed £10 million.

Jackett is understood to be weighing up his options and Akinde could be one man in his thoughts.

The 26 year old has had chances to succeed at a higher level before having played for Bristol City after showing promise in the early days of his career at Ebbsfleet United however Akinde has never really grasped the chance to kick on.

The striker has made appearances for a number of Football League clubs during both permanent and loan spells but had never scored double figures for a Football League club prior to this season.

In 2013 Akinde dropped back into non league football with Alfreton Town in an attempt to kick start his career. The striker scored 19 goals in 44 appearances in a successful spell before joining Barnet the following season.

This season Akinde has carried his good form on to The Football League and has netted double figures for the newly promoted Bees. The big man is key to Barnet’s progress and Manager Martin Allen will be reluctant to allow his prized asset to move on.
