Birmingham chase Walsall star

Birmingham City are chasing Walsall left back Rico Henry, according to The Birmingham Mail.

The Blues are understood to be linked with the 18 year old left back, who has drawn comparisons with ex Chelsea and England star Ashley Cole.

Birmingham boss Gary Rowett is known to be looking to strengthen the left side of his defence, and Henry is a highly rated young prospect.

However, Birmingham would face competition for his signature as the youngster has been watched by Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool. It is also understood that Leicester are keen to agree a deal for the Saddlers left back.

Henry has already made 34 appearances for high flying Walsall and was named Football League Young Player of the Month last September. He was called up by England Under 19s soon after.

However, he is contracted to Walsall until 2018 and would likely cost a sizeable transfer fee.

Birmingham may be able to afford him, using the money they got for Demarai Gray from Leicester.

Henry has been part of a Walsall side who have excelled this campaign and are on a surprise promotion push from League One. Birmingham are hunting a Championship play off spot.
