Port Vale v Swindon called off after pitch inspection

This evening’s League One clash between Port Vale and Swindon Town has been postponed. Overnight rainfall and considering the forecast weather conditions for the rest of the day, the referee has decided to call off the game.

Referee Peter Bankes visited Vale Park at midday today and conducted a pitch inspection. With the pitch currently unplayable and conditions unlikely to improve, an early decision has been taken to avoid Swindon supporters travelling to Staffordshire.

Port Vale currently sit in tenth place in the League One table and are only four points off the final play-off position, which is currently occupied by Peterborough United. Vale have won their last two matches against Bury and Blackpool, both by a 1-0 scoreline. Prior to that they had gone without a victory.

As for Swindon, they find themselves positioned in 16th in League One. Martin Ling recently resigned from his position at first-team manager due to health reasons. They were in good form during his tenure and after two defeats they got back to winning ways at the weekend. A fine 4-2 home victory over Southend United kept them six points above the relegation zone. Last season’s play-off final losers are nine points behind the top six.

A new date for the match has yet to be announced but once rearranged it will be revealed in due course.
